Antonio Brown, a former Tampa Bay Buccaneers athlete known for his infamous mid-game exit in 2022 and financial struggles following his sports career, has launched his own cryptocurrency.
Although Antonio earned over $80 million during his NFL career, he declared bankruptcy in 2024 due to his complicated financial affairs, which resulted in over $3 million in debt. From credit card debts and failing to disclose assets to facing lawsuits from previous players, Antonios' liabilities also led to the seizure of his $3 million home in Florida and the expulsion of his indoor football team, Albany Empire, from the National Arena League.
Despite his financial turmoil, Antonio has launched his own cryptocurrency venture, meme coin $AB84, on Solana, which has a total supply of 840 million tokens. He recently announced the coin on X to his 19.5 million followers; however, shortly after posting on X, including posts with Kanye about his new meme coin, they were deleted. Brown has shown that he’s not afraid to make bold financial decisions, but crypto can be perceived as a risky investment.
Antonio’s website states, ‘This isn’t just another meme coin - it's a movement powered by one of sports' biggest personalities’ leveraging off the Super Bowl winners’ stardom and massive following. The former athlete, now cited on his website as a ‘crypto pioneer’, aims to make the $AB84 the biggest meme coin success story with viral marketing, 24/7 promoting, celebrity shout-outs, and community building.
From podcast appearances and live streams, Antonio plans to leverage strategic partnerships with influencers, A-list celebrities and exchanges to create a movement and hype for his meme coin to dominate on every platform.
Although his sports career was a huge success, including a Super Bowl title, 6 Pro Bowl selections and 4 consecutive All-Pro honours, he hasn’t had a lot of luck with his finances. Antonio's financial journey is a reminder of how quickly wealth can unravel without expert guidance.
